Facts you should know about Jacqueline Ray
Jacqueline-Tom relationship and divorce
Though their divorce was quite an acrimonious one, Tom did really love Jacqueline. He went on the verge of a melt down while going down through the memory lane of his first marriage. It was Tom’s involvement in the series Magnum P.I that brought about the divorce. Tom was simply in awe with the script and simply wanted to play the part.
“I just read it and said, ‘I have to play this guy,’” says Selleck, whose “wonderfully flawed” Tom’s character is based on the Robert B. Parker detective novels. But as the show grew in stature, Tom’s female followings did too and some of them were too close. Jacqueline started losing it when she saw her husband getting cozy with different girls.
Insider sources reveal that Jacqueline “was crushed by the way their marriage hit the skids when he hit the big time — and thought it showed how fickle Tom could be,” She obviously would not have suspected that while she stood by her husband during his decade of struggle before landing his role of life with Magnum P.I. What annoyed Ray the most was that “He (Tom) was playing the field — and enjoying it!”
About Ray’s son Kevin Selleck
Despite his peripheral adultery, Tom really adored Jacqueline. He even adopted her son from her previous marriage. Ray’s son Kevin even took Tom’s last name Selleck. Kevin is an actor himself and has appeared along with his stepdad on some episodes Magnum P.I. Kevin is married to Annabelle Selleck who handled costume and wardrobe department for the TV show All Saints.
Appearance on Magnum P.I
The starting years of Magnum P.I were perhaps the best for Tom. A struggling actor getting a huge role, what could be better for him? to make it even more sweeter, Jacqueline also guest starred in the show in 1981. She first appeared in the 17th episode of the first season J. “Digger” Doyle. This episode also guest starred legendary Orson Welles and Patrick Bishop. Ray later reappeared as Ms. Roebuck on the episode Birdman of Budapest on 1983 after their divorce.
